Wellington Caves Cont.

Formation that looks like Santa's face

Wellington Phosphate Mine & Wellington Caves

We took a tour through Wellington Mine and Wellington Cave.  The mine dates back to 1914 with 6000 tonnes of phosphate mined during the four year.  The phosphate was used for fertiliser.  Megafauna bones have been found in the mine and are dated back 2 million year.  They are still visible in the mud walls today.

Wellington Cave are made up of limestone caves and date back 400 million years.  The cave is famous for its huge stalagmite which is 32 metres in circumference at the base and 15 meters high.

We spent a day at Canberra.  We went to Parliament House and the Royal Australian Mint.  The boys favourite was the Mint as they were able to make there own $1 coin.

The Mint produces coins only and the notes are made in Melbourne at Note Printing Australia
